The Safe Landing Project was created to help bridge that gap. Our goal is to provide friendly found cats with a safe, secure, short-term place to land—generally for no more than about two weeks—while the next step is determined. This is not intended to be a long-term shelter or foster facility. It is a temporary stopping point designed to give us something incredibly valuable: time. For one cat, that may mean a joyful reunion with a family who has been desperately searching. For another, it may mean having several safe days while we coordinate with a rescue that can accept the cat into its program. And for a cat who has been abandoned, those days may be the first step toward an entirely new life. We’re creating the time and space needed to find the right answer for each cat.

Sometimes saving a cat isn’t about a dramatic rescue. Sometimes it’s simply about having somewhere safe for them to go.
Every day, friendly cats are found wandering our neighborhoods. Some are clearly lost pets. Some may have been abandoned. Others enter a trap during a TNR effort and quickly show us that, despite being found outside, they are not feral at all.
Getting them off the street should be the easy part. Unfortunately, it often isn’t.
The Gap We See Every Day
When a friendly cat is found, there isn’t always an immediate place for that cat to go. An owner may need time to be located. A microchip may need to be researched. Lost-pet reports and neighborhood posts need time to circulate. And when no owner can be found, a rescue may be willing to help—but may not have an available foster or intake opening that same day.
That leaves a critical gap between found and safe.
Too often, rescuers and community members are left scrambling for a temporary solution.
And sometimes, there simply isn’t one.
A Safe Landing Changes Everything
Why This Matters
Cats don’t schedule their emergencies. They are found at night, on weekends and at the exact moment when fosters are full and rescues are stretched to their limits. Yet a cat who is friendly, frightened and standing in front of us still needs an answer. We believe that answer should never have to be, “Put them back outside because there’s nowhere for them to go.”
Sometimes all we need is a little time.
